Born in Nassau, The Bahamas, Franz received a BBA from Acadia University in Canada, and an MBA from the University of Warwick in England. In 1990, he was transferred to the UK by the Bahamas government to work at the Bahamas Tourist Office (BTO) in London. Franz had a stellar career in the UK travel and tourism industry from sales executive, rising to Regional Manager and then European Development Manager. During his time at the BTO, he did a two-year secondment at Sun International where he was the UK Sales Manager. He considered this an incredible part of his tourism career as he worked directly with the company’s hotels in South Africa, Mauritius, Dubai and The Bahamas. Travelling to those countries also allowed him the opportunity to analyse their tourism infrastructure in comparison with The Bahamas.
He made his operatic debut in the world premiere of Our Boys, first Bahamian opera by Cleophas Adderley with the Juilliard School of Music Orchestra in 1987. As a Finalist from Channel 4's award winning Operatunity UK television competition, he was interviewed and performed live on BBC Radio 3's In Tune programme in February 2003. Franz resigned from the BTO in 2004 to pursue a music career. He has made other significant operatic world premieres in the UK over the years. An avid fundraiser, he has done over 1,000 charity performances in 200 UK towns and cities. He has organised and performed at sell-out concerts in the UK, Spain, Dubai, Germany, USA and The Bahamas. He is also a prominent Bahamian classical composer and in 2003 as part of the Bahamas’ 30th independence celebrations in London, he organised a concert of his music performed by Bahamian soprano JoAnn Deveaur-Callender, and accompanist Lee Callender at the prominent All Souls Church, Langham Place. There were over 1,000 people in attendance, including his parents who travelled from The Bahamas to attend. The concert received great reviews.
Between 2013-2020, Franz did over 800 music therapy sessions in the United Kingdom for people with dementia and learning difficulties. He believes that you must have empathy, compassion and patience in this area. He experienced first-hand the incredible power and positive impact music has on those suffering from dementia. He considers this one of the most important and memorable aspects of his life’s journey to date. As a result of his charity fundraising and work with dementia patients, in 2015, Franz was invited to Her Majesty’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
In 2015, he joined C.A. Christie Real Estate as European Development Manager. Franz has a strong interest in statistics, history, sociology, psychology, and with his Bahamas background and travel industry experience, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the real estate arena. He has travelled in five continents, and he strongly believes that in meeting people from different countries, he has a better understanding and appreciation of our planet’s beauty and diversity.
Over the last year, the covid factor has meant that Franz saw a dramatic increase in client enquiries and those travelling to The Bahamas to view properties. He also worked with two clients who went on to purchase private islands in The Bahamas.
Franz is based in London, UK and his hobbies include tennis, bowling and researching Bahamian history.
